The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, WWF Russia, the United Nations Environment Programme in Central Asia (UNEP-CA) and CREON Group have the pleasure of inviting you to the official announcement ceremony of the results of the Second Environmental Transparency Rating of Oil & Gas Companies Operating in Kazakhstan.
Date: January 22, 2019
Venue: Mazhilis Hall of the House of Ministries, Astana
The oil and gas industry in Kazakhstan is the main driver of economic development of the country. In 2017, oil production reached 86.2 million tons, 10.5% higher than in previous year. This increase in oil production has significantly contributed to the 4% GDP growth in 2017. Such impressive indicators should imply adequate measures to reduce environmental impacts.
The Rating serves as a significant incentive to improve the transparency of the companies in terms of disclosing environmentally relevant information and arranging communication with the parties involved: the civil society and the local communities. The project aims to promote the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Rating will notably contribute to the environmentalization of regional economic development processes in Eurasia and will become instrumental for government agencies, business community and representatives of civil society.
Participants of the Rating include Tengizchevroil, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating, KazMunayGas, North Caspian Operating Company, Mangystaumunaigaz, Ozenmunaigas, CNPC-Aktobemunaigas, Embamunaygas, Kazgermunai, Karazhanbasmunai, Buzachi Operating, PetroKazakhstan Kumkol Resources, Caspi neft, Maersk Oil Kazakhstan, Kazakhoil Aktobe, Zhaikmunai, Kolzhan, Turgai Petroleum, South Oil.
The rating is calculated on the basis of the original methodology developed by WWF and tested in Russia in 2014-2018.
